There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, in which casino gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel complex that contains a number of conveniences in addition to the gambling den, which has 10,000 square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
